Qatari pilgrims are greeted by relatives at the Doha International Airport.
DOHA: People who went for Haj from here have begun returning. The first batch of the pilgrims arrived here in two special flights later yesterday.
The first special flight that arrived was by a local pilgrimage operator and it carried 130 pilgrims.
A total of 1,200 pilgrims have gone for this year’s Haj, two-thirds (some 800) of whom were Qataris, while the remaining are expatriates.
The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has, meanwhile, announced that all the pilgrims from Qatar are safe. The Ministry’s oblique reference is to the deadly coronavirus whose cases have been detected in Saudi Arabia.
Some pilgrims told the local media they had a safe pilgrimage because the number of pilgrims was relatively less this year.
