The agreement, which was signed by the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs H E Abdullah Saleh Mubarak Al Khulaifi and QU President Prof Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, will benefit QU and other institutions and policymakers in their planning and decision-makers in terms of the needs of the labour market.
The agreement addresses the lack of information, statistics and research on the labour market, noting that there is no certified database or unified information source that gives integrated information about Qatar’s labour market.
It builds on the strategy for the Qatari labour sector launched in 2011 by the then-Heir Apparent to promote Qatarisation policies, provide more job opportunities for citizens in related sectors and focus on absorbing the largest number of nationals in employment.
The labour information system will improve the way labour market policies are planned and developed based on precise statistics and targeted research, and so help in structuring effective policies and procedures.
Commenting on the agreement, Prof Al Misnad said: “Labour market information system has come at a timely moment when more graduates are joining the workforce and new professional fields are emerging in Qatar. It is important for us as the national university to be part of this collaborative effort that will be beneficial to a wide range of stakeholders — academic, government, business, industry, and civil society and advance the national development strategies”.
Minister Al Khulaifi said: “I am pleased to renew my relationship with QU especially as I graduated from the College of Business years ago. The MoU establishes a mutual beneficial relationship with QU and its various research centers to create an invaluable information system that helps students, researchers and decision makers to better understand the local labor market”.
