DOHA: A diabetes awareness initiative was held by the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA) at Qapco’s facilities in Mesaieed. The mobile unit of the QDA was used for the awareness campaign.
The QDA medical team provided health education about diabetes for some of Qapco’s staff, where tests for blood sugar, diabetic feet and eyes for diabetes related problems were conducted.
The mobile unit is operated and supervised by physicians and professional diabetes educators, and consists of three rooms: Education and blood sugar test room, eye examination room with retinal camera, and foot care room.
QDA’s Executive Director, Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq said: “The mobile unit helps us improve the quality of people’s life in Qatar through raising awareness about the importance of following a healthy lifestyle as well as diabetes management and prevention.”
Qapco welcomed the initiative from QDA and considered the day was a success. Numerous employees attended the QDA’s awareness sessions about diabetes.
Qapco’s Medical Section, headed by Dr Adham Abou El Zahab, has been very active in promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles within the company.
As the health of its employees and their knowledge of health related issues is a priority, Qapco encourages such initiatives to raise awareness about ways to prevent, identify and fight diabetes.
Qapco praised QDA’s role and thanked all the volunteers who participated in this day dedicated to Diabetes Prevention.
QDA used the mobile unit previously in different events at the Corniche, Katara and Al Khor City in cooperation with Al Khor Health Center.
