DOHA: The Indian community yesterday marked their country’s 67th Independence Day with enthusiasm and patriotic fervour.
Functions were held at the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) under the aegis of the Indian embassy and at Indian schools.
Ambassador Sanjiv Arora unfurled the tricolour at ICC.
He read out excerpts from President Pranab Mukherjee’s address to the nation on the occasion.
Children from Indian schools rendered national anthem and patriotic songs at the event.
Indian schools also joined celebrations with various events.
MES Indian School celebrated the Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm in a colourful function at the KG Auditorium.
The President of the school’s governing body, V V Mahamood, hoisted the tricolour, followed by the national anthem performed by the school choir.
Ideal Indian School marked the event at its premises with many activities.
School President Dr Hassan Kunhi M P unfurled the Indian flag amid the singing of the national anthem by the school choir.
At Birla Public School, Independence Day celebrations were held in the presence of their Chairman C V Rappai, Gope Shahani, Komal Shahani and life member Bhullar.
Many children participated in the event, wearing tricolour clothes and sang the national anthem and patriotic songs.
Vice-Chairman at the Bhavan’s Public School Abdul Kader hoisted the national flag at the school premises in the presence of staff and students.
