Ambassador Deddy Saiful Hadi.
DOHA: Indonesia is seeking to enhance relations with Qatar, especially in the agriculture, mining, infrastructure, banking and tourism sectors.
Relations and cooperation between Qatar and Indonesia will continue to strengthen, the Indonesian Ambassador Deddy Saiful Hadi, said in a statement marking the 68th Independence Day of his country, which will be celebrated tomorrow.
“Currently, one of the elements of the good relationship between the two countries is the increasing number of Indonesian citizens who work in various sectors in Qatar,” said Hadi.
He called upon Indonesian citizens to obey Qatar’s rules and follow its traditions.
“I call on all Indonesian citizens living in Qatar, who are our country’s ambassadors, to retain their image as good citizens by following norms and abiding by rules and regulations set by the local government to work in peace and comfort.”
It is estimated that around 38,000 Indonesians are living and working in Qatar, making it as their second home.
Relations between both countries were established in 1976, reinforced by improving diplomatic ties and the opening of the Qatari embassy in Jakarta in 1997 and the Indonesian embassy in Doha in 1999.
The President of Indonesia visited Qatar in 2006 and the Emir visited Indonesia in 2009.
