Manama/Doha: The Bahraini cabinet yesterday wished Qatar further prosperity and progress under the leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and continued march of construction and development.
The weekly session of the cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, in the presence of the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, expressed deep appreciation for the Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for his role in developing Qatar and raising its status in various fields.
Meanwhile, the Emir received cables of greetings from UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and heads of several countries.
Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conveyed his greetings and congratulations to the Emir on assuming power.
“On behalf of the government and the people of India and on my behalf, I extend heartiest congratulations and warm greetings on your assumption of charge as the Emir of the State of Qatar,” Singh said in the message.
“India greatly values its close and time-tested relations with the State of Qatar.
“We look forward to further strengthening and deepening our multifaceted relations for the mutual benefit of our two countries under your distinguished leadership.
“I take this opportunity to convey to Your Highness my best wishes in guiding Qatar to further progress and prosperity and for your personal good health and well-being,” Singh said.
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Turkish President Abdullah Gul, Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei Darussalam, King Juan Carlos of Spain, United Republic of Comoros President Ikililou Dhoinine, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov, Maldivian President Mohammed Waheed, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegovic, Algerian Prime Minister Abdul Malik Sellal, Tunisian Prime Minister Ali Larayedh and Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and former prime ministers Saad Al Hariri and Salim Al Hoss sent cables of greetings to the Emir.
The Emir also received a telephone call from the UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who congratulated him on assuming the reins of power.
The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani sent a cable of congratulations to the President of Croatia, Ivo Josipovic, on his country’s accession to the European Union.
