QU hosts schoolchildren for Environment Day celebrations

Doha: Qatar University’s (QU) Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts & Sciences hosted 175 children from four schools in Doha to celebrate National Environment Day. 

The celebration, themed  “Water Conservation: Every Drop Counts”, saw high-level participation by QU President Professor Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, Assistant Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs of  the Ministry of Environment Dr Rashid Ahmad Al Kuwari, QU vice-presidents, directors, heads of department, faculty and staff.  Representatives from Qatar Water and Electricity Corporation (Kahramaa) also took part in the activities.

The  students from Lusail Independent Modern School, Alkharizmi Independent Modern School, International School of London, and Qatar Academy participated in the morning programme comprising painting activities, a world water competition and designing smart models for water. The students were encouraged to showcase their entrepreneurship capabilities and innovation.   They had a discussion about the theme with Kahramaa characters Qatoura and Kahroub.  

Jassim Omar Jamaan from Lusail Independent Modern School was announced winner of the logo design of the theme. 

Head of Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences Dr Samir Jaoua said: “This is a great opportunity to raise awareness among youth as they play an important role in saving Qatar’s environment.”
