Qtel goes for brand overhaul

Doha: Qtel is expected to announce its brand overhaul at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona today.

Among a series of new initiatives set to be unveiled by Qtel at the world’s largest communications event this year is a possible change in Qtel’s brand name and logo, it is learnt. 

“Qtel Chairman Sheikh Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani will be making a major announcement at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2013 in Barcelona,” the company said in a statement yesterday.

A live screening of the event will be held at the City Centre Cinema in West Bay today. The ‘New Mobile Horizon’ congress is expected to draw some 70,000 visitors at its Fira Gran Via venue. 

The Qtel delegation will be led by the chairman, along with teams working in markets, including Qtel in Qatar, Asiacell in Iraq, Indosat in Indonesia, Nawras in Oman, Nedjma in Algeria, Tunisiana in Tunisia and Wataniya in Kuwait, the Maldives and Palestine.

In his keynote presentation ‘Connecting the Next Billions to the Internet’, Dr. Nasser Marafih, Group CEO of Qtel Group and Chairman of the GSMA Mobile for Development Foundation, will focus on challenges and lessons learned by the group

Qtel’s principal activities are mobile telephone services, broadband solutions, digital futures and fibre technologies, serving consumer and business markets. 

Qtel aims to demonstrate its credentials as an innovative, community-focused company as it continues to expand its reach and services to some 90 million customers in the Middle East, North Africa and Southeast Asia.
