DOHA: The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) and Qatar Airways would conduct a three-day trial run at the Hamad International Airport (HIA) ahead of its April launch.
QCAA sources said the trial runs would be held tomorrow, on February 27 and on March 4 between 7am and 2pm.
The QCAA invited Qataris to take part in preparing the country’s new airport for the official launch. The trial run is being undertaken to make sure that the $15.5bn facility is ready for the April opening. There would be a mock check-in and ‘passengers’ would undergo all the normal procedures they are expected to go through before boarding a plane. “We want to make sure that everything is in place and the airport is ready for the April launch. This is an excellent opportunity for citizens to get a feel of the new airport ”, sources told The Peninsula.
Qataris who want to take part in the trial run can send e-mails to: firstname.lastname@example.org. At least 11 airline companies are expected to operate from HIA on the day of the launch. A number of architectural elements have been designed to make the airport look futuristic. The passenger terminal can handle 30m passengers per year.
