DOHA: The Peninsula has set up an Editorial Advisory Committee comprising members from different expatriate communities here, becoming the first newspaper in Qatar to launch such an initiative.
The 10-member committee will advise the newspaper on editorial matters, especially news coverage of expatriate communities.
Members of the Editorial Advisory Committee are Miguel Colmenares, Nicholas Ashton, Dr Mahmoud Galandar, K M Varghese, Dr Wandoor Abubacker, Flor Cabrito, Olu J Millar, M S Parikh, Zafar Iqbal Khan and Lenny Cramer.
The decision to launch the committee was first announced by Khalid Al Sayed, Editor-in-Chief, at a dinner reception for community leaders hosted by the newspaper in November.
A number of relevant issues were raised during the well-attended event at the Ritz-Carlton, where many also praised The Peninsula for giving them an opportunity to voice their opinions.
“The purpose of the Advisory Committee is to establish a direct link with the communities in Qatar and get their feedback to improve our news coverage,” Al Sayed said. “This decision was taken as part of the quality management policy of the newspaper,” he added.
With one-year tenure, the committee members will meet once every three months. The first meeting will be held in the first week of March.
