Private, govt institutions line up National Sport Day activities

Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji), in a build up to the second National Sport Day, organised a run yesterday at Aspire Park. The run is the beginning of a series of activities planned under the bank’s new initiative ‘Generation Fit’, aimed at promoting healthy lifestyle and its benefits. DOHA: Private and government institutions have lined up several events for the National Sport Day to be held on Tuesday. 

Different tournaments and games are scheduled to be held throughout the day at different venues. 

 

AZF and MoI

The Aspire Zone Foundation (AZF), in collaboration with the Civil Defence Department of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), will celebrate the day with the second Firefighter Challenge. 

Set to take place at Aspire Zone, the tournament is the ultimate test of speed, endurance, strength and concentration.

“The Civil Defence Authority is organising the Firefighter Challenge for the second year running after its overwhelming success last year,” said Captain Hussein Aman Al Ali on behalf of the General Directorate of Civil Defence. “Without doubt civic defence is a physically demanding field and requires great effort and concentration. Preparing our men is in line with preparing our society to combat dangers that face both the individual and the community.”  

The aim of the tournament is to enhance the mental and physical skills of the firefighters to perform to the best of their abilities.

In addition, it raises awareness of the risks involved in industries and highlights the heroic efforts of the firefighters, as well as strengthens ties between firefighters and the community. 

Khalifa Al Kubaisi, Safety and Security Director at AZF, said: “The foundation seeks through its co-operation with various state entities to spread a culture of safety and security, not only among its staff but also among the general public. Security is one of the pillars of work carried out by AZF, especially in its organisation of international sports events and we work hard to ensure these world-class events are secured with the appropriate safety measures.” 

 

Qatar Foundation 

Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development is hosting a variety of fun-filled sport  activities on its campus. Entry is free and open to the public.

Throughout the day, a number of competitions and tournaments will take place across five main sites at Qatar Foundation. Events include running , cycling, football and cricket matches, golf lessons and karate classes among others. Specific competitions will be organised for those with special needs.

Entertainment will also be available for children of all ages, through activities such as mini tennis, face painting and balloon twisting. 

Al Shaqab, Qatar Foundation’s equestrian venue, will host several presentations including a pure-bred Arabian horse show, an impressive tour of its world-class facilities, and pony rides for youngsters.

“By building top-notch, sporting facilities on campus, Qatar Foundation is motivating its students, faculty and staff to incorporate exercise and fitness into their daily routines,” said Ali Al Muftah, Executive Director of Support Services at Qatar Foundation.  

 

Qatargas

Qatargas will participate in the events by organising a wide range of sports activities for its employees and families at various locations.

Teams comprising employees from different departments of the company have been formed to take care various arrangements relating to sports activities, logistics, volunteers, medical, security and media.

The Al Gharrafa Sports Club will be the main venue for the activities for employees living in Doha. The day will be kicked off with a Walkathon led by the company’s senior management.

Following the walkathon, people will move to the different areas to engage in their favourite sport. The activities will include many popular events such as football, beach volleyball, basketball, table tennis and cricket. There will also be a special area for children with several attractions like bouncy castles, slides and face painting. 

Qatargas medical and security support services will also be deployed, to ensure the safety and security of all participants. A dedicated health-check area will be set by the Qatargas Medical Department, for people to have their blood sugar levels, blood pressure and body mass index checked.

A traditional Arabian tent will also be set up, where Arabic coffee and dates will be served. Refreshments and light lunch boxes will also be provided for all participants.

 

RasGas

RasGas Company Limited (RasGas), will be hosting a full day of sporting activities for RasGas employees and families at the AZF Warm-Up Track and Field.

RasGas has partnered with the AZF to host several outdoor sports and recreational activities that cater to the different age groups. The activities range from Zumba classes to football matches and will include ladies-only activities, a children’s cycling challenge and much more.

 

Barwa Bank

Barwa Bank, prepares to launch a comprehensive staff fitness programme the day.  Intended to engage all Barwa Bank Group (BBG) employees in year round sports and physical activity, the initiative will carry on the spirit of National Sport Day; encouraging regular physical activity and helping to promote a healthier life-style.

That is why we didn’t want these efforts to simply stop after the day ends, and have taken the opportunity to launch a full fitness programme to engage our staff in year round exercise and sports.”
