The session was also attended by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani and other senior officials.

Egyptian President Mohammed Mursi lauded Saudi Arabia for hosting the Summit. The Egyptian president said that the meeting is to discuss a number of social and economic issues aimed at improving the condition of Arab countries. He underscored the importance of formulating guidelines and economic policies to meet the goals and aspirations of Arab countries and to emulate what has been achieved globally.

President Mursi handed over the presidency of the Summit to Saudi Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Mursi said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under the leadership of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will spare no effort in enhancing the joint Arab economy.

Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud said in his speech that the current state of the Arab Nation requires all the countries to unite and make sincere efforts to overcome the challenges and to seek and promote joint Arab action, so as to positively and significantly affect the lives of Arab citizens.

Crown Prince Salman added: “Urgent developmental issues facing our countries have become more difficult and complicated considering the recent developments in the Arab world, including important issues such as poverty, unemployment and disease, which require exerting all efforts and agreeing on best ways to confront and eliminate them.”

“In this respect, we emphasise the importance of the role played by Arab institutions as well as supporting and strengthening their capacity so that they can play the role assigned to them more efficiently through effective participation to implement joint Arab projects, especially those that have been agreed upon in the two previous summits,” he said, Saudi Press Agency SPA reported.
