DOHA: Some 56 old and dilapidated buildings in the city have been earmarked by Doha municipality for demolition and renovation.
It is not known how many of these buildings are to be demolished and how many would be renovated.
A panel at Doha Municipality responsible for assessing the condition of buildings has so far identified 70 buildings and singled out 56 of them for immediate renovation or demolition.
The assessment is an ongoing process and continues, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning told local daily Al Arab in a written communication.
The 56 buildings pose a threat to the lives of people, including occupants and those living in their neighbourhood.
Engineer-members of the assessment committee are preparing a list of ramshackle and ugly buildings with necessary details like the name of their owners, their ID and contact details and the area and plot numbers.
The owners of these properties have been urged to cooperate with the committee to ensure public safety.
