DOHA: A lower criminal court here has sentenced six Asian construction workers to a year in jail after they were found guilty of killing a friend following a dispute over liquor sale.
The convicts worked as building industry painters and conspired to kill the victim as he rebelled and decided to sell liquor on his own.
It is not clear if the convicts and the victim were involved in brewing hooch illegally or they were procuring hooch or factory-made liquor from some other sources on the sly for sale.
The convicts confessed in court they bought knives from the market with the intention of killing their friend who wanted to deprive them of the ill-gotten profits from their trade.
The medical report suggested the victim suffered multiple stab injuries caused by sharp weapons and died.
The convicts are in the age group of 22 to 28 years and victim was also young. According to details of the case, five of the convicts were involved in the murder and the sixth one was not present at the time of the crime.
He was, however, charged by the prosecution for being part of the conspiracy as he had agreed with others to the plan to kill him and did not inform the police.
The court, therefore, sentenced the six to a year in prison.
