Civil Defence holds safety workshop for engineers

DOHA: A specialised workshop on safety is being held for engineers and consultants in Doha by the General Directorate of Civil Defence (GDCD). 

The 10-day workshop is held as a part of improving safety at construction sites. A group of safety experts from US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is conducting the workshop which is attended by a number of engineers, consultants and specialists from companies, engineering consultancies and other concerned authorities in the country. 

The workshop was inaugurated by the Director of Fire Prevention Department at the GDCD Brig Aman Saad Al Sulaiti. 

He explained the importance of the workshop saying that it will focus on latest requirements of building safety. 

The workshop discusses many important subjects on building safety and issues including basics of safety and security, ideal number of exits required, emergency lighting, fire extinguishing systems for the building, different types of fire pumps, how to take control of pumping system in cased of fire, quantity of water required for each building, testing the fire system and its maintenance and the common mistakes that will block proper working of the system.
