Doha: The General Administration of Civil Defence has organised 36 mock drills since the start of the current academic year and until the middle of October. These include various schools of all stages secondary, intermediate, primary and kindergarten children.
Evacuation officer at GDCD Capt Khamis Salem Al Suwaidi explained that the Department attaches great importance for mock drills and there a well-studied plan to cover the largest number of schools in the state to train students and school staff on evacuation process. It is also aimed at ensuring that schools in country have safety requirements as per the civil defense procedures.
Prior to mock drills safety officers visit the school and inspects safety equipments and fire extinguishing systems and other requirements. The drill is supervised by civil defense officers in order to identify any shortcomings. It also includes practical training on how to use fire extinguishers and an explanation of its types and methods of use and other safety measures.
Captain Khamis Al Suwaidi said there was great cooperation from all schools in order to take advantage of the drills, stressing that the Civil Defence will continue its awareness plan among school students.The Peninsula
