Manila: Qatar and the Philippines yesterday signed four bilateral agreements and one private sector agreement that would boost cooperation in the areas of investments, tourism, fisheries and the legal field.
The Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and the Philippine President Benigno S Aquino III witnessed the signing of the agreements at the Palace Reception Hall after their bilateral meeting.
The two states plan to establish a joint businessmen council between Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Qatar Holding signed an investment MoU with the Philippines’ Department of Trade and Industry.
In his first visit to the Philippines, Philippine President conferred on the Emir the Order of Lakandula, the highest medal in the Republic of the Philippines in recognition of his role in enhancing bilateral relations and the achievements he accomplished in several fields.
The Order of Lakandula is one of the highest honours given by the Republic of the Philippines. It is an order of political and civic merit, awarded in memory of Lakandula’s dedication to the responsibilities of leadership, prudence, fortitude, courage and resolve in the service of one’s people.QNA/ Agencies
