DOHA: The Canadian government will soon open a new embassy in Qatar due to the increasing number of Canadian citizens working in the country.
Currently it is the Canadian Embassy in Kuwait which provides services to the thousands of Canadians living in Qatar involved in various fields including oil and gas, construction, health care, education, financial services and the hospitality industry.
The new embassy, whose design and construction will take place in the coming months, is expected to open in late spring or early summer next year.
Canadian Diplomatic representatives currently on assignment in Qatar, Chargé d' affaires Gary Luton and First Secretary and Consul Jean-Pierre Paquet, are overseeing preparations for the new embassy and a number of bilateral visits, delegations and events taking place in Doha over the next several months.
Canadian citizens here are advised that the Embassy of Canada to Kuwait will remain responsible for the delivery of consular and passport services to Canadian citizens in Qatar until such time the new Embassy is fully equipped, staffed, operational and prepared to take over responsibility for providing these services to Canadians in Qatar.
All Canadian citizens registered with the Registration Of Canadians Abroad (ROCA) system will be informed when the new Canadian Embassy officially opens here.
