ISLAMABAD: The parliamentarians of the Pakistan Peoples Party led by former President Asif Ali Zardari yesterday vowed to play their role in accordance with the party guidelines to protect democracy.

In its meeting here yesterday, the PPP Parliamentary Party in the Senate was of view that it was a historic moment for the party as well as for all democratic forces to defend democracy and democratic institutions.

The meeting was attended by the PPP senators from all the provinces. Farhatullah Babar said the meeting took stock of the current political situation in the country, particularly the situation arising out of threats from the leaders of Azadi and Inqilab marches that they will enter the Red Zone.

The parliamentary party unanimously urged Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan and Mian Raza Rabbani together with Syed Khursheed Ahmad Shah try to defuse the explosive situation.

Babar recalled that PPP cochairman Asif Ali Zardari had already declared the PTI’s threat of resignations as a bad omen for democracy.
