ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs Sardar Owais Leghari aims to activate the dead committee by involving international relations experts and academia to give suggestions for improving the country’s foreign policy.

“In the first phase, the committee has proposed a one-year plan that will be implemented with the active participation of the committee members,” said Leghari.

It is to be mentioned that during the tenure of Asfandyar Khan Wali as chairman, the committee was one of the dead committees of the House which has held few meetings in the last five years. The committee mostly met to hold meetings with the delegations.

The committee comprises big names and experts on the foreign policy including former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, leading expert on international relation Dr Shireen Mazari, former Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza, two former chief ministers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and Amir Haider Hoti and Daniyal Aziz, the man behind Musharraf’s local government system introduced in 2001.
