LAHORE: Dr Mira Phailbus, a respected educationist, has been appointed ombudsperson of Pakistan’s populous Punjab province, making her the first woman ombudsperson in the country’s history.
Phailbus served as the principal of Kinnaird College in Lahore, the provincial capital of Punjab, for over four decades. She also has also served as the minister for education and minority affairs in the Punjab government.
She currently serves on boards of several prominent educational institutions in the country.
Dr Phailbus is recognised internationally for her immense contribution to the education sector in Pakistan.
According to instructions of the Punjab government, the ombudsperson will start her work at the office of Provincial Ombudsman next Monday.
