1m pregnant Punjabi women to get special treat in health week

LAHORE: The Mother and Child Health Week, starting in Lahore, the provincial capital of Pakistani province of Punjab on November 19 and elsewhere in the province on the 15th, will see some one million pregnant women being given medical doses, folic acid tablets and special energy biscuits, official sources said here yesterday.

Provincial Coordinator of National Programme for Family Planning and Primary Health Dr Akhtar Malik said that some 49,000 lady health workers and 5,000 community workers will participate in the Mother and Child Health Week.

The lady health workers will visit rural as well as suburban areas of the province and will convey door-to-door health message to the household women.

Special Assistant to Chief Minister Salman Rafiq said that the Punjab government is taking concrete steps to reduce maternal mortality rate to achieve the millennium development goal and to solve the mother and child health related problems.  Internews
