GENEVA: The World Health Organization (WHO) says the death toll in the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has passed 1,000.
The U.N. health agency said in a news release Monday that from Aug. 7- 9 when 52 people died bringing the death toll in the outbreak to 1,013 in Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
The updated WHO tally includes figures from Aug. 7- 9 when 69 new cases were reported, making a total of 1,848 suspected, probable or confirmed cases of the disease.
Ebola is highly lethal and there is no licensed vaccine or treatment for the disease, but so far three people infected have received an experimental drug. (QNA)
