TOKYO: Tokyo stocks continued to rise Thursday with the Nikkei extending its winning streak to a sixth trading day amid optimism over the course of the global economy.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average ended up 10.77 points, or 0.07 percent, from Wednesday at 14,681.72, its highest finish since April 7, Japan's Nikkei Asian Review reported.
The Nikkei's gaining for the sixth straight day was its longest rally since it rose for the ninth consecutive trading day in December.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose 2.51 points, or 0.21 percent, to 1,200.68.
Stocks opened lower as overnight falls in US shares and the yen's appreciation against the US dollar prompted selling. (QNA)
