KABUL: Taliban militants abducted at least 27 policemen in northeastern Badakhshan province of Afghanistan, local officials said Thursday.
The officials further added that the policemen were abducted in Yamgan district which was captured by Taliban militants, (Khaama Press) reported.
Provincial security chief Fazaluddin Ayar confirmed the report and said an operation has been launched to retake the control of Yamgan district from Taliban militants.
Ayar further added that Afghan security forces have not managed to regain control of Yamgan district due to bad weather condition which creates problem for the Afghan troops to conduct the operation.
The Taliban militants confirmed that 27 policemen were abducted by their fighters in Yamgan district.
In the meantime, interior ministry officials said the operation is conducted slowly and carefully in order to prevent civilian casualties
The officials further added that Afghan national army soldiers have also participated in the operation to free Yamgan from Taliban militants. (QNA)
