SAN FRANCISCO: At least nine people were killed Thursday evening in a northern California crash between a coach carrying high school students and big-rig truck, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

The accident occurred on Interstate 5 near the town of Orland about 250 kilometres north of San Francisco.

According to the report the coach was carrying high school students from Los Angeles to visit colleges in northern California.

The report said that the truck ploughed into the coach after crossing the centre line of the four-lane highway which is the main north-south route on the western seaboard. (QNA)
