ADEN: A senior Yemeni police officer was killed when a street patrol in the southern city of Aden intervened to stop gunmen from killing a judge, police said Saturday.
Colonel Tareq Sharaf was shot in an overnight gunbattle with the assailants, two of who were wounded and arrested.
The gunmen's motive for trying to kill the unidentified judge, who sits on a commercial tribunal in the port city, was not immediately known.
Yemeni authorities normally blame such attacks on Al-Qaeda or southern separatists. (AFP)
