DOHA: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, HE Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, will preside over the first meeting of the Darfur Recovery and Reconstruction Board of Directors due to be held in Doha on Monday, with the participation of the Republic of Sudan, the Darfur Regional Authority (DRA), the United Nations (UN) along with representatives of donor countries and international development partners.
HE Al Mahmoud will also chair on Monday evening the sixth meeting of the Committee for monitoring the implementation of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).
The Committee will discuss the recent developments in the peace process in Darfur and its impact on the implementation of DDPD.
Following the implementation of the peace agreement signed between the Government of Sudan and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on 6 April in Doha and the launch of the second phase of the security arrangements between the Sudanese government and the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM).
Participants will also review the outcomes of the consultative meeting, held in Arusha, Republic of Tanzania from 22 to 27 August, 2013 between the AU-UN Joint Chief Mediator and Joint Special Representative of UNAMID and representatives of the non-signatory movements.
The meeting of the Committee for monitoring the DDPD's implementation will be attended by Darfur Regional Authority chairman and Liberation and Justice Movement leader, Dr. Tijani Sese, Minister of State and Head of Darfur Peace Follow-Up Office, Dr. Amin Hassan Omar, the AU-UN Joint Chief Mediator and Joint Special Representative of UNAMID, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, and delegations of the JEM, UN, AU, the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the European Union (EU), special envoys from the United States, the United Kingdom , France, Russia and China to Sudan and representatives of Egypt, Chad, Burkina Faso, Japan and Canada.
