DOHA: The joint working committee on investments between the State of Qatar and the People's Republic of Bangladesh was held a meeting in Doha on Monday, chaired by HE Qatar's Assistant Foreign Minister for International Cooperation Affairs Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani and Bangladesh's Additional Foreign Secretary Mustafa Kamal.
Talks during the meeting covered areas of the mutual cooperation between Qatar and Bangladesh and the investment opportunities in both countries in several sectors, including energy and infrastructure, as well as several projects that would contribute to further strengthening the bilateral relations.
Addressing the meeting, HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani underlined that the State of Qatar has old and distinct ties with the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, with the latest official statistics showing increased numbers of the Bengali community in the State of Qatar (113 thousand person), who work in various sectors and activities, and have contributed to the implementation of vital projects for the State.
He added that Qatar also has strong commercial ties with Bangladesh with the total volume of commercial exchange between the two countries amounting to $175 million in 2011, and expressed hope that the two countries would witness an even greater increase in the volume of trade in the coming future.
HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani noted that today's meeting came as a follow up to the meeting held in Dhaka, in May 2012, for exploring the cooperation horizons between the State of Qatar and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, in areas that contribute to advancing our economic, commercial and developmental relations, hoping that this meeting would come up with ideas and visions to consolidating cooperation between the two countries.
Qatar has laid down its national vision 2030, and this vision has entered the implementation phase through the national development strategy, which aims to achieving economic diversification, and modernizing the infrastructure of the State, which is preparing to organize big international events, at the top of which the hosting of world cup soccer games for the year 2022, HE the Assistant Foreign Minister said, "All of these endeavors require increased cooperation with our friends and partners in order to be able to implement different economic and investment projects."
In the foreign arena, HE the Assistant Foreign Minister noted, Qatar is seeking to exploit its financial surpluses by undertaking foreign investments in all sectors, and Qatar now owns big investments in different countries of the world, and looking for more investment opportunities where political stability and investment climate permit.
Concluding, HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Jabor Al Thani expressed hope that the meeting would come up with constructive proposals to consolidating cooperation ties in all areas between the State of Qatar and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. (QNA)
