Energy Minister inaugurates Gazprom representative office in Doha

DOHA:  HE Dr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Sada, Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman & Managing Director of QP, on Sunday inaugurated Gazprom's representative office in Doha.


The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Viktor Zubkov, Special Presidential Representative for cooperation with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and Chairman of Gazprom Board of Directors; Russian Deputy Energy Minister, Pavel Fedorov; the first GECF Secretary General, Leonid Bokhanovskiy; the Charge d'Affaires of the Russian Federation in Qatar, Dmitry Trofimov and the Head of Gazprom's International Business Department, Pavel Oderov.


Dr. Al-Sada, who welcomed Gazprom representative office, said this brings greater recognition to Qatar's pioneer position in the field of natural gas industry.


This step would establish a cooperation platform and promote joint investment, noting that this office will represent Gazprom in the Gulf region, he said in a press statement on the sidelines of the event.


Asked about the new opportunities in the European gas market through partnership with Gazprom, the Minister affirmed Qatar's keenness on continuously cooperating with giant companies all over the world.


For his part, Zubkov said the representative office activities will be focused on interaction with government authorities and petroleum companies from Qatar and the GCC member states, coordination of the efforts by Gazprom's companies in the regional energy markets and cooperation with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.


The representative office will pursue the primary objective of developing long-term mutually beneficial economic cooperation of Gazprom with the Gulf countries, he added.  (QNA)
