Georgian Communist Party members and supporters carry portraits of late Soviet Union leader Joseph Stalin during a march yesterday in his native town of Gori, some 80km northwest of Georgian capital Tbilisi, to mark the 134th anniversary of his birth. While Stalin is blamed by many for the deaths of millions in purges, prison camps and forced collectivisation, many people still praise him for leading the Soviet Union to victory over Nazi Germany during World War II.
