New Delhi: , The first half of the 2013-14 budget session of parliament will begin on February 21 and end on March 22 and Finance Minister P Chidambaram will present the budget on February 28, an official said yesterday.
President Pranab Mukherjee will address a joint sitting of both houses of parliament on February 21. The session, which will go on for around seven weeks, will have a recess from March 23 and it will reconvene from April 22 till May 10, the sources said. During the break, the parliamentary standing committees will discuss the demands for grants of various ministries.
Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal will present his first Railway Budget on February 26. The Economic Survey will be tabled on February 27. The Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs finalised the duration of the budget session last week.
350 file nominations for Meghalaya polls
Shillong: Over 350 candidates filed their nomination papers for the February 23 elections to the Meghalaya assembly. The filing of the nominations to contest the polls for 60-member Meghalaya assembly ended yesterday. Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and former chief ministers D D Lapang, Salseng C Marak and Donkupar Roy filed their papers as nominees of the Congress and United Democratic Party respectively. IANS
