The Philippines’ ombudsman, or public advocate, filed large-scale corruption charges against the senators who allegedly received millions of dollars in kickbacks from a scam that misused a Congressional fund. The charges of plunder, which is non-bailable and carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment, were filed before the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court. The senators and their top aides received more than $13m in kickbacks from alleged mastermind businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles between 2004 and 2010.
