MADRID: More than 1,000 flights will be cancelled in Spain from March 4-8 due to a strike by staff of Iberia, the biggest of the biggest airline, Iberia, several carriers announced Tuesday.
The cancelled flights include 431 Iberia flights and 750 flights by both Vueling and Air Nostrum, which use Iberia ground services. Last week, nearly 1,300 flights were cancelled because of a five-day strike. There will be two other similar strikes in March.
Iberia staff are striking against a decision by Iberia's owner, International Airlines Group, to cut about 3800 jobs. The figure is equivalent to 20% of the total jobs. A mediator appointed by the government is currently trying to negotiate an agreement between the Iberia management and the unions. (QNA)
