15 civilians 'summarily executed' in Syria's Homs: NGO

BEIRUT: At least 15 civilians were "summarily executed" by regime forces in a neighbourhood of the central Syrian city of Homs overnight, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said on Wednesday.

"After regime forces raided the neighbourhood of Shammas, 15 civilians were found summarily executed," Rami Abdel Rahman, head of the Britain-based watchdog told AFP, qualifying the killings a "massacre."

He said a Muslim cleric who had six children was among those killed. (AFP)

Qatar Exchange down 0.30%

DOHA: The Qatar Exchange was pursued its upswing trend Wednesday down 25.61 points or 0.30% to 8,465.71 points from the previous closing of  8,491.32 .

The volume of shares traded was up to 14,588,390 from 8,867,404 Tuesday and the value of shares increased to QR 397,705,695.81from QR   302,676,331.54 on Tuesday.

Top gainers were Nakilat which was down 0.49% to QR 16.12 , Barwa gain 0.76% to QR 26.45, Rayan increase 0.19% to QR 26.85 and Vodafone Qatar lost by1.00% to QR 8.89 .

Today the Qatar Banking and Financial sector up 0.73 points while the Qatar industrial sector lost 12.01 points and the Services sector down 29.45 points. (QNA)

Mannai Corporation cancels acquisition of Black Cat Company

DOHA: Mannai Corporation announced that they had informed Qatar Investment and Projects Development Company (QIPCO) WLL that it will not be possible to conclude the acquisition of Black Cat Engineering and Construction Company WLL within the agreed timetable.

The QIPCO Board has accordingly indicated in the circumstances its preference to withdraw from the transaction and this has been mutually agreed with the Mannai Corporation Board, according to a statement published on the (Qatar Exchange) website.

Mannai Group was founded in 1951. It became a Public Company and its shares were listed on the Qatar Exchange in 2007.

Mannai Corporation offers the broadest range of products and services of all private sector companies in Qatar, with businesses spanning the oil and gas sector, automotive distribution, information and communication technology, consumer products, travel services, logistics and representation and others.

Since its establishment in 1981, the Black Cat Engineering and Construction Company have evolved into one of the leading EPIC and Maintenance Contractors for the Oil and Gas Industry in Qatar. (QNA)

 

 

Italy seizes more property owned by Khadafi family

ROME: Italy on Wednesday seized a hotel complex and land belonging to the family of slain Libyan dictator Moamer Kadhafi in the latest such confiscation, the ANSA news agency reported.

The property, seized by court order and worth some 20 million euros (25 million dollars), was located on the picturesque small island of Pantelleria which lies in the Mediterranean between Sicily and Tunisia, it said.

In March Italy had seized more than 1.1 billion euros worth of assets controlled by the late dictator's family including stakes in top companies, land and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Among those were 150 hectares (371 acres) of forest on Pantelleria where Kadhafi had been rumoured to be planning to build a holiday village.

The seizure follows a request by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, which is seeking the extradition from Libya of Kadhafi's son Seif al-Islam on charges of crimes against humanity. (AFP)

HH the Emir receives written message from Liberian President

DOHA: HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has received a written message from President of the Republic of Liberia Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, pertaining to bilateral ties and means of enhancing them.

The message was received by HE the Assistant Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs Ali bin Fahad Al-Hajri, when he met here today with the Liberian Ambassador to Qatar Ibrahim K Naye.

The meeting was attended by a number of officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (QNA)
