Olympics: Backing Team Qatar

With less than a month to go to the 2024 Paris Olympics, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) has launched a robust campaign to support Team Qatar athletes, who are gearing up for the Games with their eyes set on the glory. When the Paris Olympics will kick off on July 26, the entire country will be behind their heroes backing them to excel in the toughest competitions, which will see the world’s best challengers in action.

The QOC launched the campaign on its social media platforms posting videos, profiles and the past achievements of the Olympic-bound athletes to give their better understanding to fans. It’s a great initiative by the Olympic body as it will also motivate the Al Annabi stars ahead of the big challenge. “Team Qatar embodies the values of excellence, friendship, and respect. They are our source of inspiration for us all, join us as we follow their journey to glory at the Paris 2024 Olympics,” the QOC said on X.

Qatar relished best-ever Olympics three years ago in the COVID-delayed Tokyo Games when they returned with two gold and a bronze medal, topping Arab nations in the medals tally. These heroes are again the part of Team Qatar with high jump superstar Mutaz Barshim eyeing his second straight gold medal.

Weightlifter Fares Ibrahim, who etched his name in the history books by becoming the first-ever Olympic champion for Qatar, will also look to stand on top of the podium again. The beach volleyball duo of Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan, who clinched a bronze medal in the last Olympics, are also hoping to maintain their medal-winning run.

The fans can also expect a fine show from Asian Games champion Abderrahman Samba as the 400m hurdler has returned to action after an injury layoff. Qatar has already made history in the 400m hurdles as three Al Annabi athletes will take part in the event with Asian Games silver medalist Bassem Hemeida and Ismail Doudai Abakar being the other two runners who qualified for Olympics. They will be the first Asian trio from a single nation to compete in the event.

Around 10,500 athletes from over 200 countries and regions will assemble in the French capital, hoping to win medals for their nations as a total of 329 events are scheduled to be held over 17 days. Another outstanding run by Al Annabi athletes in the Olympics will do wonders for country’s growing sports, and it is time for the entire nation to support their stars in their mission.
