Qatar and Ukraine share ties built on diverse partnerships which have witnessed remarkable evolution during the recent years through shared visits between the leaderships of the two nations, and intensified coordination and consultation on a variety of regional and global issues. The visit of the Ukrainian President on Saturday was of great importance as it highlighted the solidarity and support Qatar enjoys from various countries of the world in light of Iranian attacks on the country and other nations of the region.
H H the Amir and the Ukrainian President discussed Iranian aggression against Qatar and updates on the Ukrainian crisis. The two sides stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts for de-escalation and to end the conflict. The two leaders also reviewed cooperation between the two countries in technology, security, defence, and energy. The two countries signed a defence cooperation agreement, covering technological cooperation, development of joint projects, defence investments, and exchange of expertise in countering missiles and drones.
The Ukrainian President visited Qatar in June 2024 also, marking the 31st anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries that were established in 1993. The visit represented a new milestone in evolving relations between the nations. In March 2009, the first political consultations were held between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries in Kyiv, prior to opening Qatar’s Embassy in Ukraine on August 16, 2013. The shared visits by officials of the two nations had a profound impact on the evolution of cooperation in multiple fields.
The ties between the two countries witnessed further progress in April 2021. H H the Amir and the President of Ukraine held talks in Doha, with discussions culminating in signing of a number of deals and memoranda of understanding between the two countries.
In 2023, Qatar pledged of $100m for humanitarian assistance in Ukraine. The funds were aimed at the rehabilitation of health and education infrastructure, provision of drinking water, and humanitarian services, in addition to allocating 50 scholarships, during the academic year 2023-2024, to Ukrainian students in Qatari universities. In August 2025, Qatar announced the success of its mediation efforts aimed at reuniting children with their family members from whom they were separated due to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said four children were reunited with their relatives in Ukraine, and three children were returned to their relatives in Russia, bringing the total number of children reunited with their families since the beginning of Qatar’s mediation efforts to 107 children.
