Qatar will host the 2029 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship, adding another major international sports event to its growing list. The tournament will be held in the Middle East for the first time in its 70-year history and Qatar is once again leading the way in breaking new ground.

The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) confirmed Qatar as the host of the 2029 Men’s World Championship after approving its highly rated bid during a board meeting in Manila. This didn’t happen by chance. Over the years, Qatar has built up strong experience in hosting top-level international events. The world saw this clearly during the FIFA World Cup in 2022. That tournament set a new standard for global sports events, but Qatar didn’t stop there as it continues to raise the bar.

Qatar’s yearly calendar includes major events like Formula 1, MotoGP, FIA World Endurance Championship and top tennis tournaments like ATP and WTA. This year the Arab Cup returns in December and the FIFA U‑17 World Cup is also taking place in Qatar. Known as the global sports hub, Qatar will also host the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 2030 Asian Games, bringing the continent together once again after first hosting the event in 2006.

Now volleyball joins the list. The 2029 FIVB Men’s World Championship is one of the biggest tournaments in the sport featuring 32 teams and best players across the world. The FIVB chose Qatar because of its strong infrastructure, transport system and history of well-organised events. This announcement is also another sign that Qatar is serious about its long-term sports vision.

The 2029 Championship is one more step toward what could come in 2036. President of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) H E Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani has said that Qatar wants to keep expanding its partnerships and building trust with international sports bodies “to further reinforce Qatar’s position as a strong contender to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.”

QOC Secretary General Jassim bin Rashid Al-Buenain sees the successful bid as further proof of the trust international sports bodies have in Qatar’s ability to host world-class events. He believes the 2029 edition of the Volleyball Men’s World Championship will set a new benchmark and reflect the country’s strong position in global sport.

With each new event, Qatar continues to strengthen its place on the global sports stage. The focus is clear, to deliver top-level tournaments, earn international trust and keep moving forward with purpose.
