Qatar through Qatar Fund for Development is not only providing continuous support to Palestinians who are struggling for even basic needs of life due to barbaric Israeli attacks but also helping different humanitarian projects around the globe.

Qatar, through the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), has now contributed $25m to UNRWA to support Palestinian Refugees and the agency’s human development and humanitarian activities in the region.

Acting Director-General of QFFD Sultan bin Ahmed Al Aseeri said that in addition to its vital role in providing basic services to Palestine Refugees in its fields of operation, including education, healthcare, and social protection, UNRWA has a critical role to deliver aid to the people in Gaza who are facing a horrific war.

This contribution reaffirms Qatar’s strong support for the Palestinian cause and for addressing the humanitarian situation facing Palestinian Refugees.

UNRWA’s significant financial challenges threaten its ability to maintain its essential services for Palestine Refugees. The Agency has called on donors and partners to renew their support for Palestine Refugees at large, and particularly for the people of Gaza, who depend on UNRWA for their survival needs.

In 2023, Qatar contributed $18m to the Programme Budget of UNRWA in support of Palestine Refugees.

Also yesterday, a new shipment of Qatari aid, including 55 tonnes of tents and health supplies, provided by the Qatar Fund for Development, arrived in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan by land, in preparation for its entry into the Gaza Strip in cooperation with the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organization.

Meanwhile, recently a delegation from the Qatar Fund for Development and the Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) conducted a field visit to monitor humanitarian assistance activities in South Sudan from July 14 to July 19, 2024. The purpose of the visit is to assess the progress of the project implementation from the agreement signed on February 18, 2024, between QFFD, QRCS, in collaboration with ICRC. In this agreement, $2,344,420 was allocated to support refugees and returnees in the Republic of South Sudan, who are affected by armed conflict in the Republic of Sudan as well as extreme flooding and harsh weather conditions in the South Sudan. In May this year, the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed two agreements to bolster the global role of OCHA in addressing human needs.

The first agreement entails providing an unearmarked multi-year primary funding amounting to $16m. The second agreement involves QFFD’s commitment to supporting the Complex Emergency Response Fund (CERF) with a total sum of $1m over one year, 2024. This funding is designated to enhance the capacity of humanitarian responders, ensuring the delivery of life-saving assistance in response to crises wherever and whenever they occur.
