Promoting career-oriented education

Qatar is not only promoting career-oriented education through making STEM education more attractive for students at the schools level but also ensuring that the government’s scholarships also cater the future job markets. According to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the scholarship policy aims to increase the number and percentage of individuals obtaining diplomas, bachelor’s degrees, and postgraduate studies in various fields, enhancing indicators related to the knowledge economy.

The new scholarship policy is based on four important principles, influencing the identification of target categories, available pathways, incentives provided to scholarship recipients, and reflected in quality, diversity, excellence, commitment, and indicator improvement. This policy aligns with the pillars of the national vision and strategic goals of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

The government scholarship programme which provides education opportunities to Qatari students in the country and abroad focuses specially on skills which are needed for job market, said a top official. The official noted that the scholarship is no longer just for obtaining an academic qualification, but also for acquiring skills that are compatible with the labour market and also compatible with specialisation in certain skills.

Therefore the programme provides a complete system making a basis for choosing a scholarship for pursuing higher education inside the country or abroad.

There are different criteria for choosing the universities, but eventually the student is given option pick up an university and an specialization following the need of the job market. The government scholarship programme aims at providing multiple scholarship opportunities for students in a way that suits their ambitions and interests.

It also focuses on diversity and inclusion, and aims to benefit Qatari students by developing their talents and nurturing their creative and technical skills m to support all sectors of the country and prepare a workforce ready for the requirements of the future.

It is one of the main arms for achieving Qatar Vision 2030 and promoting human development, by preparing an efficient work sector that meets the requirements of growing entities in technical and precise specializations in order to keep pace with the growth and development witnessed by the country.

Investing in education through scholarships contributes to economic growth by supporting students in gaining knowledge and developing skills crucial for innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic development. New scholarship pathways identify and nurture talented individuals within targeted categories based on their creative abilities and skills.
