Crimes against humanity

Israel is committing war crimes in Gaza with impunity and understandably with the tacit support of the US and its Western allies.  Innocent civilians are being bombed, shot dead and starved to death, but beyond rhetoric, no action has been taken by the US to stop the killing of women and children and the destruction of civilian infrastructure.

The violation of humanitarian laws in Gaza by Israel and complete inaction on the part of Washington expose the double standards of the US and allies who have different sets of policies when it comes to Ukraine war and conflicts in other countries.

Professor Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University says the war in Gaza could end in one day if the US stopped supplying weapons to Israel and that the rhetoric from top Democrats criticising Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “meaningless” because no action is taken to stop the war crimes.

In February this year, more than 800 officials from the United States and Europe signed a scathing criticism of Western policy towards Israel and Gaza, accusing their governments of possible complicity in war crimes. They accused their governments of failing to hold Israel to the same standards they apply to other countries and weakening their own “moral standing” in the world.

In yet another episode of Israeli genocide, 19 Palestinians were killed, and dozens wounded on Saturday in tank and shell fire on them by the occupation forces at an aid distribution point on the outskirts of Gaza City.

UN chief Antonio Guterres appealed for a ceasefire to allow in more aid during a visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza, the main entry point for aid. “Palestinians in Gaza — children, women, men — remain stuck in a non-stop nightmare,” Guterres said. Most of the territory’s 2.4 million people have sought refuge on the Gaza side of Rafah, where Israel has vowed to send in ground troops in its war against Hamas.

“I carry the voices of the vast majority of the world who have seen enough,” Guterres said, deploring “communities obliterated, homes demolished, entire families and generations wiped out”.

Meanwhile, Qatar is cautiously optimistic about the ongoing negotiations in Doha to stop the war on the Gaza Strip, said Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohamed Al Ansari recently. He voiced hope that talks would continue, building on what has been achieved.

Dr. Al Ansari urged the international community to not be ambivalent about the violation of international humanitarian law in Gaza. When Israel commits atrocities, it turns a blind eye to them, unlike dealing with any other country, he said.
