Strengthening relationship

The visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Bangladesh will broaden avenues of existing cooperation between Qatar and Bangladesh.

The friendly ties between the two states are set enter a new phase with expansion of cooperation in various sectors including energy and trade.

H H the Amir arrived in Dhaka yesterday, on a state visit to the friendly People’s Republic of Bangladesh. HH the Amir was welcomed upon arrival at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by HE President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh Mohammed Shahabuddin.

The cooperation between the two countries includes a wide range of fields, including economic, artistic, commercial, investment, and the employment of the Bangladeshi workforce in Qatar, in addition to cooperation in the fields of education, tourism, culture, sports, and human resources development. Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh H E Sheikh Hasina Wajed stressed that her country warmly welcomes the visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, describing the visit as a landmark in the “path of strengthening the bilateral relations” and taking them to a new horizon.

She stated that during the visit of HH the Amir, the two countries will discuss a broad range of areas and sectors, including economic and technical cooperation, trade and investment, defense cooperation, energy cooperation, employment of Bangladeshi skilled workforce in Qatar, climate change, education, charitable engagements, immigration, tourism, culture and sports, ports, and human resource development.

Speaker of the Parliament of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh H E Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury also said that the visit of HH the Amir will be a landmark in the path of strengthening the relationship between the two countries and it will step up the existing bilateral cooperation and open new areas, including parliamentary affairs.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh, Dr. Hasan Mahmud, has said that Bangladesh regards its relations with Qatar a key one. “There has been a steady growth of bilateral, manpower, energy, aviation, trade and defense cooperation between our countries.” He also hailed Qatar’s great contribution to the energy sector by being the biggest supplier of LNG for Bangladesh.  He added that “Bangladesh and Qatar enjoy visa free regimes in Diplomatic and Official passports, which demonstrate the level of warmth and trust between the countries”.

Meanwhile President of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mahbubul Alam, confirmed that the visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Bangladesh represents an incentive for the private sector in the two countries to establish strategic bilateral trade and investment partnerships.
