Qatar seeks to promote peace, security and stability in the region and around the world through the role it undertakes as a reliable regional and global mediator in resolving crises and conflicts through peaceful and diplomatic means. Qatar’s mediatory role has become more important in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the recent escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel.

Since the outbreak of Gaza war on October 7, 2023, Qatar has repeatedly warned of the real risks of the conflict spreading in the region and called for an end to Israeli assault on Gaza to spare the region form more conflicts and wars.

After Iran’s attack on Israel in retaliation for an apparent Israeli strike on an Iranian consulate in Damascus, Qatar has called for restraint and de-escalation. Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani has also spoken with leaders in the region to discuss the situation. H H the Amir has since spoken with Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, President of the United Arab Emirates H H Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Turkish President H E Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and President of Iran H E Dr. Ebrahim Raisi.

During Amir’s calls with the regional leaders, the sides underscored the significance of de-escalation and avoiding the spillover of the conflict in the region, stressing the importance of ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the Occupied Palestinian Territories to achieve a lasting and durable solution for the Palestinian cause, in pursuit of achieving an enduring and comprehensive peace in the region. The interactions also discussed bilateral cooperation.

The Arab world has been unanimous in demanding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, a demand also endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly as well as the Security Council. Israel’s military campaign in the Gaza Strip has continued nonetheless, killing dozens of civilians every day.

The Arab League said yesterday that containing the deterioration in the security situation in the region begins with putting an end to the massacres that the Israeli entity continues to commit in the Gaza Strip on a daily basis, implementing the Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, and bringing in humanitarian aid to the population living on the brink of famine. It said political solutions remain the best way to achieve security for all parties, but it remains difficult to reach such solutions with the Israeli occupation’s insistence on continuing to target Palestinians.

The international community must help implement a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and find a comprehensive solutions to the Palestinian issue.
