Qatar has once again called on the international community to intervene to stop Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip. The nearly year-old brutal military campaign in the Palestinian enclave has killed at least 41,084 people in Gaza, according to the territory’s health ministry. The UN rights office says most of the dead are women and children. At the same time, at least 662 Palestinians have been killed in the occupied West Bank by the Israeli military and settlers since October 7, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Speaking at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Qatar’s Deputy Permanent Representative in Geneva Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi stressed the need for international community to provide protection to the Palestinian people who are being openly subjected to genocide as the whole world watches. As the occupying power, Israel must be obligated to implement resolutions and decisions by the Security Council, the UN General Assembly and the International Court of Justice, in addition to ensuring accountability for all those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against the Palestinians.

The Gulf Cooperation Council countries have also condemned the ongoing Israeli military aggression on the Gaza Strip and the recent developments in the West Bank. They have called on the international community to pressure to stop the continued excessive use of force, which has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and widespread destruction of vital civilian infrastructure without any legal or moral deterrent.

Arab League Council also met in Cairo this week, and warned of the possibility of a large-scale war in the region due to the failure to cease fire in Gaza. The league said that the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is no longer an Arab demand, but rather a global demand that enjoys consensus and is a humanitarian and moral necessity, and a strategic goal to spare the region the evils of a large-scale conflict.

Qatar has been engaged in the humanitarian and ceasefire efforts since day one of the conflict and has said that it will continue its endeavours along with partners including Egypt and the US. Speaking at the Arab League Council meeting, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs H E Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi said Qatar will also continue its efforts to deliver humanitarian aid and exchange of prisoners and detainees.

As the war on Gaza approaches one year mark, the global community must renew efforts to stop this bloody campaign, which has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in history.
