Preparations are well underway to host the successful 2025 World Table  Tennis Championships which will be held from May 17 to 25 at the Lusail  Sports Arena. It will be the second time that Qatar will host the global showpiece having staged the prestigious event back in 2004. Qatar is  the only country in the Arab world and in the Middle East to host the  tournament.

The Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) has been a major partner of the International Table Tennis (TT) Federation (ITTF) hosting premier competitions in the country regularly over the years. The 2025 Worlds are expected to be the best edition attracting a field of top-ranked players from across the globe. The tournament will feature a total of five competitions in singles and doubles for men and women, and mixed doubles with a total of 443 matches scheduled to take place. In this regard, an ITTF delegation visited facilities including the venues at  Qatar University and the Qatari Women’s Sports Committee hall.

These venues are crucial in shaping the supporting infrastructure needed for such a huge tournament. The delegation also visited Aspetar  Hospital, the region’s premier sports medicine hub, and Aspire Academy, a beacon of sports excellence. These institutions will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth organisation of the event, from athlete health management to logistical support.

The delegation’s tour culminated with a visit to the Lusail Sports Hall, which will host the main competitions. The modern facility is not just a testament to Qatar’s commitment to sports but also a reflection of the nation’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, a cornerstone for hosting global sporting events. QTTA President Khalil bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi was confident that Qatar will host an “exceptional version” of the tournament, one that will surpass all expectations. He attributed  Qatar’s ability to host the event not only to its world-class facilities but also to the highly experienced Qatari administrative cadres, who have been pivotal in making such events successful.

The 2025 World Championships are especially significant as they will serve as a precursor to the 100th-anniversary edition of the event in  2026, scheduled to take place at London’s Wembley Stadium. Moreover, the ITTF General Assembly will also be held in conjunction with the tournament in Doha, marking another milestone for Qatar’s global sporting presence.

Qatar’s success in securing the hosting rights is a testament to the confidence of the global table tennis community. The country’s infrastructure, organisational acumen, and passion for sports ensure that the 2025 World Table Tennis Championships will be a historic occasion, further solidifying Qatar’s place as the world’s sports hub.
