Qatar has emerged as one of the world’s major mediators for conflict resolution. It has settled crises and disputes even major powers were unable to resolve. The mediation efforts by Doha both regionally and globally have earned it an international credibility and reputation.
The country’s efforts stems from its belief in a peaceful and better world for the common good. Since the beginning Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, Qatar has employed all tools and means to stop the bloodshed of innocent civilians. The Qatari efforts helped reach a ceasefire on November 22 last year, enabling exchange of dozens of Israeli captives and Palestinian prisoners and delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza civilians. Although the pause did not last long and the Israeli aggression resumed, but Qatar continues its efforts to alleviate the suffering of over two million Palestinians trapped in Gaza.
President of the 66th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) H E Nassir bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser has said that the meeting of the UNGA Presidents Council, which was held in Doha over two days and concluded with the Doha Declaration, touches all the sensitive issues in the world, most notably the difficult humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.

The Doha Declaration calls for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, providing more humanitarian aid to the besieged enclave, and finding a solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with international resolutions and recognising the Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
It requested the Secretary-General of the United Nations to put forward a comprehensive peace initiative based on the two-state solution and to present an action plan.
The Doha Declaration refers to the ongoing conflict in Sudan and the deteriorating humanitarian situation and called on the global community to support the efforts of the United Nations to respond more effectively to the crisis there. It also touches on the Ukrainian crisis and the need to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, in addition to the issues of climate change, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity.
