For decades, Qatar and the United States have maintained a deep and enduring partnership built on shared interests across the fields of economy, energy, security, and defence. This relationship was underscored once again following an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump, affirming America’s commitment to the security and territorial integrity of Qatar.
In a recent phone call between Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and President Trump, the two leaders reviewed their strong bilateral ties and the extensive cooperation that has defined relations between Doha and Washington. They also discussed ongoing efforts to promote regional stability, particularly in light of the US plan to end the war in Gaza. The Amir reaffirmed Qatar’s continued support for peace initiatives and its longstanding role as a mediator in regional and international disputes.
The executive order signed by President Trump reflects not only the United States’ recognition of Qatar’s strategic importance but also its pledge to defend the country against external threats. It affirms that any attack on Qatari territory, sovereignty, or infrastructure would be treated as a challenge to peace and security. This step highlights the close defence partnership that has developed over the years, with Qatar hosting US forces and facilitating critical security operations that serve the broader interests of stability in the Middle East and beyond.
The timing of this reaffirmation of security guarantees comes shortly after Israel issued an apology for its attack on Doha earlier in September, an incident that violated Qatar’s sovereignty and led to the loss of innocent life. The US move signals both recognition of Qatar’s sacrifices and a commitment to prevent such violations in the future.
Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the US decision, describing it as a clear reflection of the strength of bilateral relations and a step that will further solidify defence and diplomatic cooperation. The ministry also noted that this measure demonstrates the depth of shared responsibility between the two countries in mediation, conflict resolution, and advancing global peace.
Looking ahead, Qatar remains committed to working with the United States to address regional and global challenges. Through this partnership, Doha continues to play a central role in efforts to promote dialogue, resolve conflicts, and safeguard stability, reaffirming its position as a trusted ally of Washington and a reliable partner in the pursuit of peace and security worldwide.
