Qatar has been at the forefront to find a diplomatic and lasting solution to the ongoing war on Gaza. It has worked tirelessly with all the parties for mediation and to find a just solution to the devastating human suffering in the Palestinian territories. While the mediation has been happening, Doha has been pushing ahead with humanitarian assistance to the thousands of displaced by way of sending aid and by transporting the injured and giving them access to treatment.
Another campaign, ‘Keswet Al Eid’, was unveiled yesterday on the initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Education Above All Foundation (EAA), for the children in Gaza. This was launched in partnership with the Qatar Red Crescent, Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women, and Minaretein Mosque.
The campaign will provide new clothes for children aged 0 to 16. Donation collection will begin on the 24th day of Ramadan and continue until the first day of Eid Al Fitr. Collection points are at Al-Mujadilah Center and Mosque for Women and Minaretein Mosque, Education City.
Thousands of innocent children have been the victims of this mindless attacks. More than 13,000 children died, and 8,663 children injured in the brutal attack. Several thousand of them are displaced and are staring at a looming famine for no fault of theirs. The bombings have completely destroyed 396 educational facilities making the future of the youngsters in Gaza uncertain and bleak. The World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed the increasing mortality rates among the new-borns in Gaza due to the Israeli aggression that has been continuing for 179 days.
In response to the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to provide relief and educational support to the affected communities during the holy month of Ramadan EAA Foundation had earlier committed to delivering aid to 233,000 beneficiaries, with relief packages valued at QR33m.
In a blow to the humanitarian efforts in Gaza Israel forces killed seven international aid workers thus putting the whole process in jeopardy. Israel has not been allowing all the aid send by various countries to enter the Palestinian territory. Ships still laden with some 240 tonnes of aid that arrived on Monday was turned back from Gaza, according to Cyprus. Israel has allowed only a trickle of aid into devastated northern Gaza, where experts say famine is imminent.
The efforts by organisation like EAA would benefit thousands of children in Gaza where more than 625,000 students have no access to education. This will hopefully lay the groundwork for a revitalised future in Gaza.
