Owing to timely chalked out strategies and successful implementation by the authorities concerned particularly Qatar Tourism, Qatar has become a destination of choices for visitors from the region and beyond in recent years.
Qatar is on a path of continuous boosting its tourism sector with a variety of initiatives and completion of many tourism projects in the country. Yesterday, the Shura Council in a proposal has called for supporting private sector initiatives in establishing tourism projects. The proposal in light of a committee report also stressed the need for Qatar Tourism to improve the investment environment for the tourism sector.
During the session, Speaker of the Council H E Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim also pointed out that tourism has become a self-contained industry, as it constitutes a complex economy in which the public and private sectors interact to create an integrated tourism experience. He highlighted the country’s keenness to advance the tourism sector and support it with the aim of diversifying sources of national income.
The proposal of the Shura Council included several visions that would contribute to the development of the tourism sector as well as the involvement of the public and private sectors in supporting and promoting it.
The proposal also called for supporting private sector initiatives in establishing tourism projects, to encourage domestic tourism, and to provide the necessary support to Qatar Tourism, with the aim of building sustainable tourism, as well as to create a mechanism for the visa system according to easy and quick procedures, and develop entry procedures through land, air and sea ports, to be more flexible.
Recently, Chairman of Qatar Tourism Saad bin Ali bin Saad Al Kharji said that the Qatar Tourism focuses on developing plans and strategies that streamline procedures and regulations, aiming to solve all obstacles facing the sector and align its development with the state’s overall progress.
Speaking at a meeting recently organized by the Qatar Chamber (QC), Chairman of Qatar Tourism said that numerous plans are underway to develop the Hayya Card in a sophisticated and appropriate manner.
Meanwhile according to a latest media report, Qatar continues to strengthen its position as a leading tourism destination, with recent data from Qatar Tourism indicating a significant increase in international arrivals.
In February, there was a remarkable 53% surge in international visitors compared to same period last year, further underscoring the country’s appeal as a global tourism hub. In February, Qatar welcomed 596,000 international visitors, marking a significant rise from the 389,000 arrivals recorded in February 2023. This consistent growth trend has been evident since 2022.
