Qatar's support for Palestinians

Israel continues its rampage in Gaza despite UN Security Council’s resolution to stop its war on the Palestinian enclave, and condemnation from all over the world for massacre of civilians and destruction of civilian infrastructure.

The occupation forces committed another war crime yesterday by bombing the tents of journalists and displaced people inside the walls of Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, resulting in death of four people.

In another such incident, five people were killed and dozens others injured in Israeli gunfire and the stampede during an aid delivery in north Gaza on Saturday.

Taking note of widespread starvation and looming famine in the besieged territory, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordered Israel on Thursday to take all the necessary action to ensure basic food supplies arrive without delay in Gaza.

The ICJ said that Palestinians face worsening conditions of life and famine.  A UN-backed report has projected famine by May unless urgent intervention takes place.

Qatar welcoming the ICJ ruling said the war on Gaza has created a tragic humanitarian situation that continues to worsen due to obstacles imposed on the entry of aid and the targeting of civilians, including children and women and the aid distribution areas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed the need for compliance with the ICJ order.

The country’s efforts for ceasefire in the Gaza Strip have won the praise of UN Security Council and the international community’s appreciation for its diplomacy and contribution to regional and international peace and stability.

Permanent Representative of Qatar to the UN H E Sheikha Alya Ahmed Saif Al Thani said Qatar has been coordinating with the UN agencies to alleviate the suffering of civilians in Gaza. The country has increased its funding to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Besides, the Qatari government has been sending planeloads of aid since the beginning of the crisis in Gaza, and evacuated hundreds of wounded Palestinians to provide medical care in Doha as part of the initiative of H H the Amir to treat 1,500 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The Education Above All Foundation intensified its aid efforts during Ramadan in Gaza. The foundation committed to delivering aid to 233,000 beneficiaries.

The foundation said that it is carrying out 16 initiatives with its partners to support residents, including the provision of meals, mental health and psychosocial support, Eid clothes and toys for children and hygiene kits for women.
